This spring, I shot a lot of one hour sessions at the studio. One hour is enough time to be able to create a variety of images to present to my clients to choose from and it certainly seems that even with just the one hour, clients still struggle with narrowing down to their very favorite images to purchase. I also offer a session at the studio that is up to two and a half hours. We have much more time for more outfits and more settings. Ashley chose the longer studio session and what you see below is just some of her amazing senior portrait choices. We had such a blast during her session!

Well, the Class of 2012, I think has officially come to a close here at Thrive Seniors. I may get a couple in the next month or so, but it’s time to gear up for the Class of 2013! I had such a great time and big year photographing this class and in the middle of the year, moved into an amazing studio (that reminds me, I should really do a blog post with images of the studio)….back to this blog post. Even though I pretty much failed to blog most of my awesome sessions from this class year, I thought I might try to post some blogs in the next couple weeks of the great senior portrait sessions that took place at my studio. I have spent so many years doing only location photography, which I still love and offer, I must say, it was really amazing to have this studio and discover all the many places and angles to shoot. I have so much more to discover as I go through each season here and add to my indoor options. My head is spinning with ideas! So for the next few weeks, I might not write much, but hey, I’m a photographer…you want to see my pictures not hear me ramble; am I right???

I going to come right out and say it….this IS the best looking couple ever! Of course, I am a bit biased since this is my son and his fiance, but I don’t think my eyes deceive me though! I had such a blast photographing Brandon and Lindsay’s engagement pictures. It was such a perfect April evening and they were spectacular in front of the camera. Brandon and Lindsay are high school sweethearts and have known each other since they were 10 years old.
Last week, they both graduated from Kansas State University. There are so many big things happening in their lives right now. Her parents and my husband and I, along with Lindsay’s entire sorority got to be witnesses to Brandon’s proposal. It was the kind of surprise that most girls dream about. What a privilege to be there! That was in early November. At that time, we all thought that this would be a short engagement and they would be getting married this summer. Brandon has been accepted to medical school, but he will not know until next week if he will be starting this August or next. So, wedding planning has been in limbo. I think we all, Lindsay especially, will be very happy when we know for sure next week and she can really being to make some definite plans. Its’s exciting no matter what! Their love is so beautiful and I am especially thankful that for the two of them no one else has had their hearts. I am one blessed woman!

Every year, I am so surprised at how fast it seems the year flies by, but yet at the same time, it seems like eons ago that I took that first Class of 2012 client’s portraits! This year was no different. What an outstandingly gorgeous, handsome and stellar group of young people I had the privilege to photograph from the Class of 2012. I am consistently blown away by the immensity of their gifts and the amazing potential of their futures. In the short time that they are in front of my camera, I try to find out a little about them and there is something that transpires when you photograph someone. It’s like a small connection is made and though I might not know these young people very well, I feel such hope for them and feel connected to them in some way. There’s nothing like getting hugs from my happy senior clients as they walk out my door with their order or portraits in hand. I really do consider it a blessing from God to have each client relationship. I never consider one of them accidental. There are so many other great choices for senior photography in Kansas City, but for specific reasons, they have chosen Thrive Seniors. This year, I had almost a dozen senior portrait clients that traveled over 2.5 hours for their senior portraits; some came 5 hours and made a weekend of it. Wow – what an honor! I am so very, very thankful for each and every one of you beautiful, handsome and amazing high school graduates! I wish you all of God’s greatest blessings as you go forward! There is greatness in each of you and the potential to be world changers! I can’t wait to see where life takes you! – Heidi

Well, it happened again….blogging failure! The senior photography spring season hit like a tornado (thank you, Jesus) and in the midst, I shot two weddings. Needless to say, I’m working long hours and blogging has fallen to the bottom of my to do list. My wonderful interns helped me get my blog entries ready to go, but it is up to me to publish them. I sure hope that I can deliver more great senior portrait goodness to you over the next month. May is a great transitional month for the senior photographer, with one class graduating and the junior class taking their place as the new seniors! I have a Class of 2013 senior, so this will be a busy year for me in more ways than one. I have this great new studio and so many great big plans for the Class of 2013. I’m hoping that May is the month I can pull it together. Although, I’ll be honest, my son is graduating from Kansas State University on May 12th and will be moving home while he waits to head to medical school at AT Still and also to get married! So many wonderful things happening!! So, I will do what I can at Thrive Creative Studio and strive to enjoy the things that matter most – FAMILY! When I am old and retired and my photography business is long gone, I will be happy that I spent time with the ones I love and probably not be upset that I didn’t get that marketing piece out in the mail. I need to constantly remind myself of this. Without further ado…. A THRIVE SENIORS BLOG POST…. beautiful Brittany who is off to Yale to study and be a gymnast for the university!

There couldn’t have been a more picture perfect March wedding day than March 31, 2012; the day that Mandy and Alex joined their lives together as one. The gorgeous weather gave way to gorgeous portraits. Mandy and Alex had their ceremony and reception at The Adams Pointe Conference Center in Blue Springs, Missouri. This venue happens to sit right in front of Adams Pointe Golf Club. I had gone on a scouting expedition to the conference center weeks before the wedding and tried to pick the perfect place for their formal and family portraits. Of course, this always hinges on the weather, so I was beyond thrilled that the day was sunny and dry. What resulted is what you will find below and this has made me very happy. I hope that it makes the Maples happy too and there is more to come. But for now, Mandy and Alex, my deepest thanks for entrusting me with capturing this momentous day in your lives. Your love for one another was so evident throughout this day and your family is beautiful. I was honored to be a part of your wedding. – Heidi

It’s time to get ready!!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!

These three pictures below were captured by Jessica Seaman, of Boulevard Portraits, who came along to second shoot with me.

Time for the fellas! This top picture here is Alex with his two sons. What GREAT kids! And, as you will see further on down, quite the dance machines!

A little bit of the day’s details…..

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the building of a family unity candle. This moment was so touching and sweet.

Kiss the bride!

The new Mr. and Mrs. Maples Family!

Did I tell you these kids were great???

The blissful bride and groom.

It takes a village to bustle a wedding gown.

Party time!!!

Be still my heart!

I kid you not when I say that they danced NON-STOP and they were good.
